Welcome to Playa Hermosa

A beachfront resort town bordered by crystalline waves

Sitting just north of Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa is a sleepy beach town with clear, gorgeous waters. Fig and palm trees stretch the curve of the bay, and the large, sandy beach gives way to tranquil waves. This small vacation spot is an ideal place to put down roots — whether you’re here full-time or part-time.

Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste is full of charming hotels and quiet residential streets. For many decades, this community was a quiet fishing village. However, its gorgeous views brought visitors to its shores, and it developed into a charming resort town through the late 20th century.

Playa Hermosa’s residential area is populated with single-family homes, most of which face west to catch the spectacular sunset each evening. You’ll love the laidback tempo Playa Hermosa offers.

What to Love

Local Lifestyle

Playa Hermosa has a handful of delightful amenities, and it’s just a short distance away from the hip nightlife of Playas del Coco. However, the quiet beach town has an atmosphere that attracts families and retirees looking for a peaceful strip of nature. With stunning weather and nearby nature, it’s easy to let yourself get lost in the endless summer feeling of this charming community.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Dine inside a modern treehouse setting at Ginger. Tapas with an Asian influence are paired with delicious cocktails and a view of the ocean. Directly off the sand, AquaSport serves a wide menu of burgers, pizzas, and salads alongside its many fun activities. After dinner, gather for a game of beach volleyball or enjoy the nightly live music as the sunsets.

Roberto’s is on the first floor of La Gaviota Tropical Guest House. It has a patio that overlooks the waves and serves a menu full of favorites from around the world. At Hotel Bosque Del Mar, Niromi mixes Costa Rican flavors with international cuisine in a wood and marble dining room. For cooking at home, get your everyday essentials at the small local supermarket, Mini Luperon.

Things to Do

The clear waters of Playa Hermosa make it an ideal spot for snorkeling and diving. In fact, the Bat and Catalina Islands just offshore are popular spots where divers can swim with bull sharks and manta rays.

Spend the day on the uncrowded beach, where the waves are gentle enough for the whole family. Many of the nearby hotels have amenities, and AquaSport has many sand games for its guests.

Schools

For families, there are several prime schools nestled along the coast to consider. For some towns, they are just moments away. However, even in the more secluded beach towns, a stellar school is no more than half an hour’s drive.
